Comedy!
Time to dig into America’s cure for a midlife crisis - pickleball. One of my new favorite things is watching people who started playing pickleball a few months ago explain pickleball to someone who has never played. “Noooo, no hahah it’s not just like tennis. Cute of you to think so.”
They get way too excited explaining the game. They act like they invented it and will get some award if they recruit people to join their sweaty-ish cult. They’ll always hit you with a humble brag while explaining “Honestly I like pickleball, because it’s a sport where even my mom is competitive with me.”
For those who don’t know, Pickleball is played with a wiffle ball. Which is the kind of thing that makes you wonder, “hmm, have we run out of ideas?”
I do like the sport. Anything to help middle aged men with knee and back problems feel like Roger Federer. Plus with the pickleball scoring system, they get to feel like a mathematical genius.
There are some people who aren’t as excited about the hot craze. They haven’t picked up a tennis racquet in years, yet are on their public forums complaining about how the town is falling apart - turning all of their tennis courts into pickleball courts. “I mean I was just about to start playing tennis again. Now how can I? And the noise - it sounds like toddlers with construction tools.”
Have fun out there on the courts. And, before you scroll up to double check - yes, this month the comedy section was longer than the fund update.
